Flickr users: do you know what Yahoo! could do with your photos?

I came across in in Flickr’s Strobist.com group. It concerns me because, in a nutshell, Yahoo! will be able to use my photos for pretty much whatever they want while my photo is hosted on Flickr.

I pay for my Flickr account, so as I see it I pay Flickr to host my images for me. I wouldn’t expect site5.com or hostingforabuck.com to make use of my web content just because I host it on their servers.

WordPress: Fixing the missing TinyMCE editor

Tim over at hotsinglegtrack.com passed this little snippet of information my way. If you’ve already tried disabling and enabling the RTE in a user’s profile without success, try this.

Swans don’t give a XXXX about anything else

A day after Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and northern Herefordshire were all hit by severe flooding, the River Wye finally gave way at Ross. This swan is 50 metres from the river.

Taken at the same location as this, give of take a couple of metres.

Foamcore Macro Studio

A few months ago man schutt, a Flickrite, posted a design for a home-made, foldable and portable macro box. After managing to source some foam-core from Graphics Direct I gave it a try. (more…)

Flickr: Amazing Coincidence

Flickr is full of photos of the same flower, same angle of the Trevi Fountain, all devoid of emotion, inspiration and originality, but these two photos, taken by two different photographers from different viewpoints are amazing.

At first glance they look different, but if you look closely at the position of the couple, in particular the gentleman’s hand, you’ll see that their of the same scene taken at the same time.

Multiplicity: A new tutorial

Multiplicity: The five of me - Finished resultI’ve written another “cloning” tutorial. This one explains how to use layer masks to achieve the result with the benefit of being able to fix mistakes in the cloning.

Read it here.

Multiplicity: The five of me

Following on from my “Multiplicity: Pouring yourself a beer” tutorial that used the eraser tool to merge the images, this slightly more advanced tutorial explains how to use layer masks to achieve the result. Layer masks are better suited to this because you can selectively “undo” changes to the layer long after you’ve made other changes. (more…)

Red Wine

Today, someone has asked if they can use this on a birthday card. That’s a first for me. Wedding photos I’ve taken have made their way on to “Thank you” cards, but that’s to be expected.

Five of Me

Five of Me

This is a remake of this photo. I had the fifth image but forgot to include it. Technically the photo is rubbish. The lighting is awful and the wide angle has distorted the edges of the frame.

I used the technique here, but used layer masks rather than the eraser. Layer masks give you scope to “undo” your changes without having to undo changes that you want to keep, so they’re far superior for processes like this.

Multiplicity: Pouring yourself a beer

There are many cloned images where the same person appears several times in the frame, but few of them involve the person interacting with themselves – they’re mostly just the same person in different, sometimes overlapping, poses. They’re a bit boring. (more…)
